A directory path is a format or/and a route indicating the location of a particular file within the hierarchical organization of files in computer memory. It consists of a listing of subdirectories within directories, e.g., /internet/web/html/file.

Detail:

HTML documents generally utilize UNIX style directory paths. The file path for a file on a Web server would be server.name/internet/web/html/file, using forward slashes as opposed to the back slashes for a DOS path, c:\internet\web\html\file.
